The first month of coin donations from the fountain at the FSK Mall are complete. Today MaryMargaret delivered the entire $475.00 to Ms. Clara Bowens, the Administrative Supervisor of the Frederick County Animal Shelter. MaryMargaret chose the Animal Shelter as her charity because of her deep love and respect for animals. The money will be used to purchase much needed medicine.

October 27, 2008MaryMargaret Presents to Kiwanis
October 24, 2008Last night MaryMargaret and her dad presented Kids Are Heroes to the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick. Her dad explained what the web site is designed for while MaryMargaret told of what is actually on the web site. They closed with a slide show of many of the featured heroes and their stories.
When they returned home MaryMargaret received an email from the son of one of the Kiwanis members. He has a very ambitious project in front of him and he was looking for guidance. We will help him become a hero as best as we can. As details develop, they will be shared.
Two Heroes Make the Press
October 23, 2008Julia and Anna Lemick of New Market MD are holding a food bank drive this Saturday at the Giant in Urbana. Their efforts made the Gazette – see the article here.
Schools and Businesses
October 16, 2008You may have noticed two new areas of the web site – Schools and Businesses. We are starting a new initiative to include schools for recognition. For example, there is a high school in Omaha whose students slept in cardboard boxes overnight to raise awareness of homelessness. I reached out to their guidance counselor hoping they will respond and want to be featured. Please let your school know that we are making this effort – it might set off some sparks!
As for the businesses, we are recognizing those businesses that are becoming involved with helping our heroes. We will feature them every time they help out. Please pay them back by using them when you need one of their services.
Kids Get Free Web Pages
October 8, 2008We want to help kids get the word out about their charities, so until it gets too crazy we are offering free web pages for all kids that are featured as heroes on the Kids Are Heroes web site. We got started with MaryMargaret’s site then Alli’s. We have a few more in the hopper to do yet. If you are a featured hero and would like a free web page, please email gabe@kidsareheroes.com.
Make a Difference Day
October 5, 2008I think we all know what a contribution Paul Newman has made with his Newman’s Own products. (If we do not it is over $250 million to date.) What a legacy. October 25th is “Make a Difference Day”. The Newman’s Own company is sponsoring the USA WEEKEND initiative. Check out the web site at www.makeadifferenceday.com. If any of you kids out there do something really special on that day, let us know about it.
