Kids are Heroes Day

July 31, 2008

The day the press came out about Kids are Heroes, I was contacted by the marketing director of the FSK Mall.  She was so touched by what she saw she wanted to include the website in her community outreach program.  My first instinct was to be skeptical, since a marketing director’s job is just that – marketing to bring more people in the mall.  One meeting with Christina convinced me her heart was in the right place.  So she came up with “Kids are Heroes Day,” which will be an event that happens on September 6th from 10AM-4PM at the FSK Mall in Frederick.  All the heroes mentioned on the website will be invited to promote their causes as well as collect donations for them.  At 1PM there will be a recognition ceremony where the mall will award all the heroes with certificates.

My self-imposed task is to draw people to this event.  These kids are all so wonderful and it will be so heartwarming – I think that the people that are present are really in for a special treat.  I have been putting it up all over the Internet on local Events calendars and telling anyone who will listen.  Originally, I thought that if we get a radio jock or a celebrity of some sort that would be paramount to drawing more people in.  I drove myself nuts trying to think of someone.  Then it dawned on me.  The person who gets to award these kids will be given a great honor.  It should be an adult hero; maybe a person who represents one of these heroes as an adult.  Then I said why just one emcee – let’s honor a bunch of adult heroes by giving them the privilege of awarding these kids.  So far three adults have agreed.  Two of them have spent a career working with disabled and mentally handicapped children.  Another is a career volunteer firefighter and EMT.  What a humbling experience this is going to be.

New Section of Website

July 31, 2008

It seems like a lot is happening right now with Kids are Heroes.  I don’t expect that to change any time soon, so we created this new section to keep everyone updated on related events.  We will probably also use this section for aspiring heroes to get support from our visitors.  Feel free to comment on any post that is up here.
